The Spanish finishes the rest of the season with the Italian firm in WRC2
Nil Solans will mount Pirelli tires in the remaining races of his season in the World Rally Championship in the WRC2 category. The Italian brand is in a moment of ascension being now the main alternative to Michelin, showing superior in some situations – such as in Sweden, when Takamoto Katsuta achieved his first victory against the official Skoda with Michelin tires.
So far he has worn Dmack tires, a brand that came several years ago to the top category and for several seasons came to have official team with M-Sport with Ford Fiesta WRC piloted by Ott Tänak and Elfyn Evans, as well as team in WRC2 with pilots such as Karl Kruuda, Tänak himself or Jari Ketomaa. Evans gave the brand a sensational victory in the Rally of Wales 2017, dominating from start to finish with a compound that perfectly adapted to the type of land in the forests of the Myherin region.
This year Dmack has stood out by his absence, going from shod to the pilots of the JWRC (role that now Pirelli plays) to have almost no presence in the assistance parks of the World Rally Championship. In addition, the performance of their tires, sometimes quite competitive in dirt rallies, is far from that of Pirelli or Michelin on asphalt rallies such as Germany and the RallyRACC (the bulk of the route is on asphalt, although the first stage is disputed over Earth).
The change from Dmack to Pirelli increases the chances of having a good result (mechanical issues aside) in the Rally Deutschland, as it is a test that knows well and the Pirelli can play a good role in asphalt rallies. Another case is the RallyRACC, your home test in which you can squeeze as much tires as your Ford Fiesta R5.
